Cherrapunji
Cherrapunji located in the India state of Meghalaya, is set at an altitude of 4,500 feet with the foggy valley overhead along with the meandering rivers and floating white clouds. The place is set against a spectacular background. Cherrapunji witnesses precipitation throughout the year. Because of this reason, Cherrapunji has a mention in the Guinness Book of World Records. It has the reputation of being the wettest location in the world.
However, due to the recent alterations in the weather conditions, the rank of being the wettest place on earth has been taken away from Cherrapunji. This place does not lack in the natural beauty, which encircles the whole place in abundance. One can get mesmerized by the ethereal white clouds.
The record of witnessing the second highest precipitation in the entire world is held by Cherrapunji. 2,300 cm of rainfall was recorded. At present, Mawsynram holds this title as per recent research. The distance between Mawsynram and Shillong is 55 Kms.
The main attractions of this place are its oranges groves, orange honey and the caves made up of limestone. The distance between Cherrapunji and Shillong is 56 Kms. All the year round, this place witness rainfall and this is the solitary location in India to do so. Another of the crowd pulling destination of Cherrapunji is the living bridges. These bridges are nothing but the effort of the inhabitants of this place, who have grown roots of trees for many a years to be developed into bridges. One of the most ancient bridges here is a bridge which dates back to 500 years back.
TOURIST PLACES IN CHERRAPUNJEE
Nohkalikai Waterfalls: In the entire world, the 4th ranking most altitudinous waterfall is the Nohkalikai Waterfalls. Only during the time of monsoon, this waterfall can be seen. The distance between the waterfall and Cherrapunji is a mere 5 Kms. The origin of the waterfall is like a clean fizzy stream and then it converts into a mighty waterfall.
Thangkharang Park: The gigantic plain lands of Bangladesh can be seen from this location. This place is under the administration of the State Forest Department. The distance between this park and Cherrapunji is 12 Kms. One major feature of this place is the structure of Koh-ramhah, having an altitude of 200 feet. It is made of a single rock. The rock takes the form of a basket, which has been upturned.
Kynrem Waterfall: The water of the Kyrem Waterfall splashes on the ground from a height of 1000 feet. This waterfall is considered as the waterfall having the maximum altitude in the entire Indian state of Meghalaya.
Double Decker Root Bridge: In the village named Tyrna, the Double Decker Root Bridge is located. This bridge is held as a specimen of accomplishment of bio-engineering. The bridge is having two levels. The capacity of the bridge is 50 or more people at one point of time. the length of the bridge is more than 100 feet.
Dainthlen Waterfalls: One of the perfect locations for carrying out picnics is the waterfall known as the Dainthlen waterfalls. The journey by road to this location is spectacular. One should not miss the opportunity to visit a village named Rangjyrthei, which is located close to the water fall.
Khasi monoliths: A complicated arrangement of interlinked channels is situated under the ground and below the archaic cave nearby Cherrapunji. For the people who like exploring intriguing and interesting places, this location is perfect.
Mawsmai Falls: Another location to visit is the Mawsmai Falls. The distance between this water fall and Cherrapunji is just a couple of kilometers. The altitude of the waterfall is 1,035 feet. In the list of all the waterfalls having great heights, this water fall ranks 4th.
