CHANDERI
The small city of Chanderi sitting in the Ashoknagar District of Madhya Pradesh state occupies a prime position in the Indian history. The place has its name referred in the historic epic Mahabharatha. The city flourished royally under the valiant rulers of Malwa, Mughal, Bundela and Scindia dynasties. The rulers contributed in their own way for the overall cultural development of the city. Being one of the major trading hub in the Central India, Chanderi was also a prime military base camp. The Fort : The fort was constructed during the Mughal rule on a hill. Khooni Darwaza is the name given to the main entrance.
Jama Masjid : It is one of the oldest and biggest mosques located in the central India.
Parameshwar Tal : This beautiful tank was built by the Bundela Rajput rulers. Cenotaphs of kings and a beautiful temple is located to the side of the lake.
Buddhi (Old) Chanderi : Buddhi Chanderi with the congregation of 10th century Jain temples has emerged as a major pilgrimage centre for the Jains.
Thruvanji : This place about 26 kms from Chanderi is popular for its medieval period Jain temples.
Archeological Museum : This museum consist of ancient idols and rare articals collected from the near-by places.
Deogarh : This city about 70 kms from Chanderi is a place with rich scenic locale, historical and religious importance.
Thubon : Thubon is a historical city which is located about 28kms from Chanderi. Remnants of ancient temples are noticed here.
Kadhvaya : A heritage site protected by the Archaeological Survey of India houses monasteries belonging to the 8th century.
Malhargarh : This place is famous for the presence of Pathrigarh - Hasangarh Fort.

HOW TO REACH
By Air : The nearest airport is located at Bhopal about 258 kms from Chanderi. Gwalior is also another major air station.
By Bus : State and private buses run between Gwalior, Indore, Guna, Shivpuri, Ashok Nagar, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Tikamgarh, Vidisha, Sanchi and Bhopal to Chanderi.
By Rail : Lalitpur, 36 kms away from Chanderi is the nearest station. Ashok Nagar is also a major rail head.
