        From North to South on Bay of Bengal 572 island constitute emerald green twins islands- Andaman and Nicobar. The capital of Andaman is Port Blair. At two third of the distance from India towards Myanmar on sea-way in Bay of Bengal, these are basically top of the hills. Such islands of lime stone and sand stone may be seen from New Guinea to North Andaman and are spreaded along 725km sea route on Bay of Bengal as Island acre. The only living volcano Barren Island is at 135 km from Port Blair. Andaman is an ancient place and it is also mentioned in the Ramayana.

        Andaman and Nicobar are two separate islands located on the either side of 130km long, 10 channel on Bay of Bengal. Andaman and Nicobar were added to British Empire in 1888. The link between the Indian mainland and Andaman was established during the last part of 17th century by the Marathas. Basically Andaman is the homeland of primitive tribal’s.  

        The natural beauty of Andaman is and Nicobar are unparallel with sunlit day and pollution free sea breeze. The blue water of the vast Bay of Bengal touches the horizon. Foamed, wet silvery beaches are available in plenty in the islands. The fun game colored fishes under the shallow water, delightful corals and maritime plants beautify the entire island. Nature has developed Andaman on Bay of Bengal with hills and forests like an efficient architect. The basic resources of this island are forest resources. Out of 3000 species of plants in Andaman, 221 species are not available anywhere in the world. 100 species of orchids are grown there. 45 species of herbs are being used as medicine here.  Teak, mehagani, rose wood are grown and recently rubber plantation has been introduced. The islands are colored with colorful butterflies, orchid and tropical flowers. Hence Andaman is heaven for the travelers. Port Blair is one of the modern city in Andaman with green hillocks here and there. Transparent water of shallow sea and coral welcome the tourists.

 

Demography-

        The density of population in Andaman is 43 per sq km. the rate of literacy is 81%. Principal language spoken here are Andamanese, Bengali, English, Hindu, Nicobarese, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. Civilization is yet to reach here. The people of this state live on fish, meat, milk, fruits, plants and honey. It has a very less population but we find most number of tourists from all the corner of the world.

 

Climate-

        Andaman has a tropical climate. The best time for the tourists to visit the place is between mid-octobers to mid-May. Also the best time is between November to March.  It has a moderate climate, neither too hot nor too cold. However sea becomes rough during rainy season.
