Sikar District, with Sikar town as its headquarters, is a district of the state of Rajasthan in western India. Sikar is a historical city containing situated in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan and is popular for many old havelis, attracting a large number of tourists. The city can be easily reachedoad from Jaipur or Delhi. It is situated at a distance of 114 km from Jaipur, 320 km from Jodhpur, 215 km from Bikaner and 280 km from Delhi.

Sikar History

Sikar was last ruled by Rao Raja Kalyan Singh, famous for magnificent buildings, palaces, temples and ponds, in the period of 1922-1967, spanning over 32 years. He is credited to the building of the  of the clock tower, adding to the beauty of the town. He was also the fouder of  Kalyan Hospital & Kalyan College, which he built for the motive of public welfare. He died in the year 1967. The traditional paintings on the walls of the havelis, temples and forts attract tourists from across the globe.
 
Sikar was the kingdom of royal Shekhawat rajas. At present too, many shekhawat families stay in Sikar. One of the most famous Shekhawat belonging to Sikar is Mr Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, the former Vice President of India. The Bajajs, the Birlas and the Goenkas , the three most prominent business homes of the country also belong to Sikar. Many businessmen belonging to  the Marwari community from the district reside in various places all over the country such as Assam, W.Bengal, Surat, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Sikar Climate

The district has a hot weather in the summer season and receives scanty rainfall. The weather is chilly during the winter season. The air is generally dry except the rainy monsoon season. The average maximum temperature ranges between 48-49 degree Celsius and average minimum temperature ranges from 1 - 0 degrees Celsius. It receives an average rainfall of 466 mm from the south-west monsoon.

Sikar Tourism

Sikar is famous for the pilgrimage place of Lord Shri Khatu Shyamji, an Avatar of Lord Shri Krishna. Devotees from all over the country and abroad such as Nepal and Bhutan come to Sikar before the full moon to take part in the fair organized on Ekadhasi-Dwadasi Tithis as a part of the pilgrimage. About 20-25 lakhs of people come to have a Dharshan of Shri KhatuShyamji in the festival organized every year in the Hindu moth of Phagu, i.e. Feb-March. There is  a village in neem-ka-thana thehsil in the district which is famous for hot water, which is said to come through cow's mouth in both winter and summer for more than 100 years.
