The state of Bihar, India, constitutes of 38 districts, out of which is the district of Sheikhpura is one. The administrative headquarters of Sheikhpura District is located in the town of Sheikhpura. The Munger Division contains Sheikhpura District in it. On 31st July, 1994, disjointing of Sheikhpura from Munger District took place. Consequently, it was given the status of a full district.
Sheikhpura History
Sheikhpura was categorised as Thana during the period of Mughal reign. The rank of Big Kothali was given to it, during the British Raj. Post independence it came to be a Block. It developed to be a sub-division on 14th April, 1983. On 31st July, 1994, the status of full district was given to Sheikhpura. Sheikhpura is positioned in south-western most corners in the Monghyr Sub-division. The district contains a railway station lying on the South Bihar Railway.
