Seraikela District 

Jharkhand has twenty four districts. Seraikela is one of them. It initially formed part of the princely state of Seraikella and was known as Seraikela-Kharasawan. The district headquarters of Seraikela are located at the town of Seraikela. There are three distinctive styles of the chhau dance which is practiced in Jharkhand. Seraikela Chhau is very famous in this district. It forms part of the Red Corridor. West Singhbhum gave birth to this district in 2001. 

                                                    Seraikela History 

The Singh Deo family is the former royal family of Seraikella. They have a palace at Seraikella which is 300 years old. They sometimes come here and stay. They also spend their time at other places such as Orissa, West Bengal and abroad.  HH Raja Aditya Pratap Singh Deo was the last ruler of the princely state of Seraikella. Tikayet Sahib Nrupendra Narayan Singh Deo, HH Maharaja Sir Rajendra Narayan Singh Deo, Patayet Sahib Maharajkumar Bhoopendra Narayan Singh Deo and Rajkumar Sudhendra Narayan Singh Deo are other well known people of the same era. Rajkumar Sudhendra Narayan Singh Deo was awarded with the Padma Shree Award.

The Singhe Deo royal family has an active public life. They also take care of the Ma Paudi temple. This temple is located within the premises of the Royal residence. They also host the Chhau festival at the Seraikella Royal Palace. The region’s real estate and business is also taken care of by them. The locals support them in every way even though they have lost their title and privileges. Rajkumar Pratap Aditya Singh Deo, Rajkumar Juga Bhanu Singh Deo,Maharajkumar Jairaj Singh Deo and Rajkumar Rajvikram Singh Deo are the most active members of the royal family.
