Sangrur District 

Out of the 22 states in the Indian state of Punjab, the district of Sangrur is one. At the present time, Barnala has become a distinct district, which previously was a part of the Sangrur district. Dhuri, Malerkotla, Sangrur and Sunam are some of the important cities of Sangrur. Sangrur is the administrative headquarters of the district. Sangrur is situated at the junction of the roads, which link Delhi and Ludhiana with the place called Bathinda. Basically, the district of Sangrur used to be mostly a countryside area. However, at the present time, this location has become quite a hub for business as well as education. 

It is so believed that the most primitive habitation was done around 2,300 B.C. in Sangrur. The dwellers of Sindh and Balochistan relocated themselves to Rohira because of the presence of the productive soil and the good accessibility of water. Before constructing houses of bricks, people used to dwell in thatched huts. During the time period of 2,000 B.C, it is believed that another group of people came here to settle. The potteries made by these new people were more strong and powerful. The houses constructed by them also had much more amount of space.

A person named Sanghu, who was a Jatt, founded Sangrur around 400 years back. In the ancient time, Sangrur was included in Nabha state; however during the rule of the Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Sangrur was removed from the Nabha state and given away to the Jind State. Sangrur came to exist as the winter capital of the Maharaja of Jind; the summer capital being Khunga Kothi. Following the event of partition of India, this place was included into PEPSU. It was turned into the administrative headquarters of the district. Following the elimination of the PEPSU state, this region was included into the Punjab State. 

During the summer months, the weather condition of Sangrur remains quite dry and gets heated up. The summer lasts from the beginning of March to the month of July. From the middle portion of July to the end of September, one can experience the monsoon. During the months of December, January and February, one can experience the winter chills. The winter months remain briskly cold. The time period between January and March is the perfect time to make a trip to this place.

One cannot find many number of spot for tourists; however there are a quite a number of location, which contains historical and religious significance.
