Nandurbar is a district in the state of Maharashtra. It lies in the northwest corner of the Khandesh region. Dhule was divided into two districts on July 1, 1998. The districts were named Dhule and Nandurbar. The district headquarters are located at Nandurbar city. Dhule district borders the district from the south and south-east side, Gujarat from the north and west and Madhya Pradesh from north and north-east. The Narmada River defines the northern boundary of the district.
There is a wind farm under construction 30 kilometers from Nandurbar city. It is supposed to be the worlds largest farm and have an output of 1000MW. Suzlon Energy has taken up the project. WTG tower and blades are made in local manufacturing units of Suzlon. The unique identification or Aadhaar is ambitious project of the central government of India to provide unique identification to its billion plus citizens. Ranjana Sonawane of TembhlI village and Rushil in Nandurbar district became first citizen of India to get twelve digits Unique Identification on September 29, 2010. Marathi, Hindi, Bhili, Konkani, Gujarati, Ahirani and Bareli Pauri are the major languages spoken.
Nandurbar History
Nandurbar formed part of the Dhule district until July 1, 1998. Khandesh region comprised of Nandurbar, Dhule and Jalgaon districts. Dhule was known as the west Khandesh whereas Jalgaon was known as the east Khandesh. Khandesh, Dhule and Nandurbar have similar history.
Nandurbar and Jalgaon comprised Khandesh until 1906. Khandesh means the country of Lord Krishna. Khandesh district was divided into west and east Khandesh in 1906 to ease the administration. East Khandesh was later renamed as Jalgaon and west Khandesh as Dhule. Dhule was further divided into Dhule and Nandurbar on July 1, 1998. Nandurbar is also known as Nandanagri as the king Named Nandaraja was the ruler of this territory.
Nandurbar Climate
The climate is usually hot and dry. Summers last from March to mid-June. May is the hottest month of the year. The temperature can go up to 45 degrees. Monsoons start from mid-June. The weather gets hot and humid. The northern and western regions receive more rainfall than the rest of the region. The average rainfall is 859 mm through the district. Winters are mildly cold but dry.
