Lakhisarai district, with Lakhisarai town as its administrative headquarters, is one of the thirty-eight districts of the state of Bihar in India. Established on the 3rd of July 1994, it is a part of Munger Division. Earlier it was a sub-division within Munger District. Some important temples and religious spots within the district are Ashokdham, Bhagwati Mandir of Barahiya, Sringi Rishi, Jalappa Asthan, Abhainath Asthan on Abhaipur Mountains, Maharani Asthan of Abhaipur, Govindbaba Asthan Rampur and Durga Asthan Lakhisarai etc. It shares boundaries with Munger, Sheikhpura, Begusarai and Patna in the East, South, West and North respectively. People of Lakhisarai are beholden to the freedom fighters who martyred their lives for the Motherland.
Lakhisarai History
The administrator of Pal Vansh ruled over the region in seventh century to eleventh century. In 11th century, it was ruled by the Sen family for some time. Acharya Hawaldar Tripathi has quoted evidences from "Mritika Mudra", which is kept in Nalanda, to mentioned this region of Lakhisarai. It states that Krimila and Caval Gram were very significant. It is believed that believe Krimila of that period is now Kiul Basti, situated in the southern side of Lakhisarai Railway station. Krimila was a renowned center of Buddhist religion. Lord Buddha stayed here for three years on Chaliya Mountain in the district. Jantugram was located nearby Chaliya on the bank of river Krimikala, where Lord Buddha, with his followers, used to visit and deliver speech. It is now believed largely that Krimikala is now in Kiul river and todays Jainagar mountain is the Chaliya mountain.
This region was attacked by Md. Bin Bakhtiyar in 11th century. It was also ruled by Shershah in the 15th century. The great war of Shershah and Mugal emperor Humayu in 1534 took place in Surrajgarha. In the year 1953, a fight occurred in Fatehpur near Surajgarha between Miya Suleman and Adlshah in which Adilshah was killed. It was carved out of the Munger district and was given the status of a separate district on July 3, 1994, which the former Lakhisarai sub-division of the undivided district.
