Kheri History
There is not much history associated with the place. This district was included in the cession when Rohilkhand was ceded by the British in the year 1801. It was later restored to Oudh after the Anglo- Nepalese War of 1814-16. When Oudh was annexed in the year 1856, a separate district named Muhamdi was formed from the western part of the present area. It was cast into Mallanpur which also included part of Sitapur. After a year, Muhamdi became one of the chief center of disaffection in northern Oudh. On June 2, a group of refugees found shelter in Muhamdi. They left two days later. But they were shot dead on their way to Sitapur. Those who escaped were chased and killed at Lucknow. The British officials at Mallanpur, with a few who had fled from Stapur, escaped to Nepl, where most of them died. The district was not recovered until October 1958. Peace was restored and Lakhimpur was made the district headquarters soon afterwards.
