Khagaria district, with Khagaria town as its administrative headquarters, is one of the districts in the state of Bihar in India. It is a part of Munger Division. The town has an important railway junction on the Barauni Guwahati section of the Indian Railways. It is connected by the National Highway 31 with the rest of the country to North Eastern region passes through this town. It has another rail line which connects it to Bihar Saharsa and Samastipur. Seven rivers namely Ganges, Kamla Balan, Koshi, Budhi Gandak, Kareh, Kali Koshi and Bagmati flow through the district.
Khagaria History
Five centuries ago, Todarmal, who was the revenue minister in the Mughal Empire at the time of Akbar, was directed the entire empire. Due to difficult landscape, rivers and dense forests, he could not map this region now known as Khagaria . Hence, he named it Farakiya. A weekly newspaper- 'Farkiyanchal Times', owing to this name, is published in the district.
Khagari Culture
The district is predominantly rural in nature with a mixed population and pluralistic culture. The demography of the district constitutes of different castes and communities including Bhumihar Brahmins, other Brahmin sub-castes, barai, Rajput, Kayshtha, Yadav, Koari and Kurmi, Marwari, Muslim and others. Barai, Yadavs, Koeri and Kurmis form the majority of the population. Muslims form about 12% of the total population. Major festivals celebrated in the district are Chhat Pooja, Holi, Durga Pooja and Dipawali.
