Jodhpur History
In the 1870's, Sir Pratap Singh, a son of Maharaja of Jodhpur ruled the place for 50 years, after he came to the fore by ruling the neighbouring kingdom of Idar. He ruled Jodhpur at the height of Rajput gallantary. He became very close friend of three British sovereigns. It is said that at Queen Victoria's durbar he presented her not with jewels, as well as his own sword, his most valuable possession as a Rajput warrior. He laid the foundation of a modern state in Jodhpur, which Maharaja Umaid Singh built upon. The kingdom of Jodhpur was one of the most progressive and largest states. It was merged into the newly created state of Rajasthan in the year 1949 post-independence. Tourism Jodhpur
