Jhunjhunu district also known as Jhunjhunun is one of the district of Rajasthan located at western part of India. The Jhunjhunu town is itself the district headquarters.the district is a part of Shekhawati region which is bounded by Haryana state on north east and east, Sikar district on the southeast, south, and southwest and Churu district on the northwest and north. Dewta village of this district near Singhana is famous for providing considerable representation to Indian defence forces. In addition, Suresh Bajad an Indian hockey player, was born in the same village in a Gurjar family.
Two prominent families of industrialists in India, namely the Pasari and the Birla family, two families of prominent Indian industrialists, hail from this district. One of the prestigious engineering institutes of the country called Birla Institute of Science and Technology, is situated at Pilani, a town in Jhunjhunu district. Headquarters of the Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute is also situated in Pilani. Rani Sati Temple and Old Havelis are the main attaractions of tourists in Jhunjhunu district. One of the town of Jhunjhunu i.e Khetri is known for Copper mine there.
Jhunjhunu History
This district, which is part of Shekhawati region was named after a Jat named Jhunjha or Jujhar Singh Nehra. It was ruled by the Kaimkhani Nawabs for 280 years. Rohilla Khan was the last Nawab of Jhunjhunu who ruled there till 1730. Shardul Singh who was very courageous, bold, brave and efficient administrator acted as Diwan for Rohilla Khan. He earned a great faith of Rohillla Khan and occupied Jhunjhunu after his death in 1730.
Shardul Singh was as brave as his ancestor Rao Shekha Ji and by dint of his subtle political demeanour that he occupied Jhunjhunu & ruled over it for twelve years. Shardul singh had five sons who ruled five equally divided estate of Jhunjhun after his death till India achieved its freedom. Shardul singh was a believer and the examples of his devotion are Kalyan Ji Mandir & Gopinath Ji Ka mandir at Jhunjhunu. To honour the sweet memory of their father, his sons made a monumental dome at Parasrampura whose fresco painting is worth seeing.
