The state of Haryana of India is composed of 21 districts, out of which the district of Hisar is one. The administrative headquarters of the district is located in Hisar City. An IAS officer, who is commissioner, is in charge of the district, which is also a component in the Hisar division. Till the restructuring of the states, the biggest district in Haryana was the district of Hisar. The recent Jind District was given the addition of some portions of Hisar District in 1966. Bhiwani District obtained the Bhiwani Tehsil and Loharu Tehsil in 1974. Upon the construction of Sirsa District, Hisar District was again divided. Afterwards the construction of Fatehabad District also took place.
The Divisional Commissioners headquarters as well as the Police Ranges headquarters is located in Hisar. Furthermore the battalion headquarters of the B.S.F. 3rd Bn. H.A.P. and commando force is located here only. The construction of a five floor building names the District Administrative Complex took place, in order to provide space for all these departments. In 1980 the shifting of offices took place. Adjacent to the recently made Judiciary Complex, the District Administrative Complex is situated. The Judiciary Complex is also put into use. In Haryana, the biggest administrative and judiciary complex is in Hisar itself. Also, it is regarded as the biggest district headquarters of India.
Among Indus Valley Civilizations five villages, Hisar is one such. In the history books mention of the name of the village is done in the background of Indus Valley Civilization. Also because of containing one of the five Sheep Farms, traces of this place can also be found in the books of General Knowledge. Banwali was the name, by which it was called in the early times. Hisar district occupied the second position in the list of the most inhabited district of Haryana, after Faridabad, in the year 2011.
Hisar History
Hisar gained much prominence in the time of Akbars rule. The Revenue Divisions headquarters, called sirkar, was this place only. A number of the Mughal Princes, having involvement with Hisar later turned out to be Emperors. The Duke of Wellington of the Mughal Era was the title given to the Hisar City during this time period.
Before the arrival of British rule, George Thomas was Hisar regions last person in the history of this place, who played an important role. From 1797 to 1802, he governed the region of Haryana, together with Hisar as an independent leader. This eminent Irish adventurers presence is still felt due to the existence of Jahaz Pul and Jahaz Kothi, located in the east side of the city. Initially a Jain temple, then a mosque, Jahaz Kothi was later used as a dwelling place by Thomas.
As an expansion of the Punjab Agricultural University of Ludhiana, the Agriculture University was established at this place in the early sixties. This place became prominent because of this reason. The economy of the city has undergone a major progress owing to the positive policies of the Government. Also, a many number of industrialists have come here due to the Governments industrial policy. As a consequence the city and the area surrounding the city has undergone industrialization.
Hisar Climate
A continental weather prevails in Hisar District. The summer months are hot, while the winter months stay fairly cool. April month sees the beginning of the summer season. The summer ends in the mid art of October. The hottest month of the year is May. 45 degree Celsius temperature range is the maximum day time temperatures during this time. Months from June to September, Hisar encounters a feeble monsoon season. The precipitation is on 15 inches. November month sees the advent of the winter season. The weather remains gentle and sunny. However, on few nights the temperature may drop to the zero degree Celsius mark. The area comes under semi-arid region. The canals and ground water irrigation system assist cultivation and farming. At a distance of 30 kilometers of That Deserts north-east direction, the district of Hisar rests. Loo, which are hot winds are strong here and common too. These winds blow in the months of May, June and July. Also, common are the sporadic dust storms. Owing to the western turbulence, quite an amount of precipitation occurs here, in the winter months.
