Deoria is a district in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The district headquarters are situated at Deoria Town. It forms part of the Gorakhpur division. Bhojpuri is a prominent language in the district. In 1994 a place was created out of the north and east portion of Deoria and it was named Kushinagar. The district is bordered by Kushinagar on the north, Gopalganj and Siwan in the east, Mau and Ballia in the south and Gorakhpur on the west. Ghaghara, Rapti & Chhoti Gandak are the main rivers in this district.
Deoria History
Some land was separated from the district of Gorakhpur to form a separate district called Deoria. This event took place on March 16, 1946. As they say, the name �Deoria� is believed to have been derived from Devaranya or possibly Devpuria. Deoria generally means a Land of Temples. A very famous temple dedicated to Lord Shiva called the Somnath Temple is found in this region. Another temple which is dedicated to Goddess Durga called the Deorahi Temple is built on the bank of River Kurna. The Kushinagar district was formed in May 1994 by separating the north-east portion of the Deoria District.
Deoria Climate
The place experiences a subtropical kind of climate. May and June are the hottest months of the year while December and January are the coldest ones. Soils of different types such as domat ,bhat ,matiyar & balui domat are found commonly. Deoria district has five tehsils namely, Deoria Sadar, Salempur, Rudrapur, Berhaj & Bhatparrani.
