Rajasthan is a state in western India. Baran District is a district of Rajasthan. The district headquarters in the city of Baran. It shares its border with Madhya Pradesh on the north and east, Jhalawar District of Rajasthan on the south and southwest, and with Kota District of Rajasthan on the west and northwest. Anta, Atru, Baran, Chhabra, Chhipa Barod, Kishanganj, Mangrol, and Shahabad are the eight tehsils of the district.
Baran History
After Indian independence, the rulers of the princely states acceded to the Government of India, and the present-day Baran District was made part of Kota District. Baran District was carved out of Kota District on April 10, 1991. Most of the existing Baran District was a component of the princely state of Kota, before Indian independence in 1947. However, Shahabad tehsil was a discontinuous portion of Jhalawar princely state and Chabbra tehsil of Tonk princely state. The rulers of the princely states came under the Government of India, after Indian independence. The existing Baran District became a part of Kota District. Baran District is engraved out of Kota district on the date of 10th April, 1991.
