The District of Anuppur is situated in the state of Madhya Pradesh in central India. On the border of the District lays Koriya District of Chattisgarh state on the east, Bilaspur District of Chattisgarh on southeast, Dindori District of Madhya Pradesh on southwest, Umaria District of Madhya Pradesh on the west and Shahdol District on the north and northwest. The district administrative headquarters is located in the city of Anupur. The district has a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Amarkantak. The District was created on 15th August 2003 out of Shahdol District. It is part of the Shahdol Division. The District is covered by hills and dense forests. The sacred River Narmada was originated from the hill of Amarkantak in the Maikal Hills, and the Son River originated in neighborhood. The people of Anuppur speak Bagheli, which is 72-91% similar to Hindi and approx 60% to German and English and is spoken by almost 7,800,000 people in Bagelkhand.
