One of the administrative districts of Gujarat state is Anand District. It was constructed out of Kheda district in 1997. Anand districts headquarter is Anand. The bordering districts of the place are Kheda district on the north, Vadodara district on the east, Ahnedabad district on the west and the Gulf of Cambay on the south. Khambhat, Tarapur, Petlad and Sojitra are the major towns. Anand Municipality governs the district. It is a part of Charotar, which is a region comprising of Anand and Kheda districts.

Anand is acknowledged as the Milk Capital of India and became well-known for Amul dairy and its milk revolution. The city is a home to National Dairy Development Board of India and Anand Agricultural University. Vallabh Vidyhyanagar and Karamsad, which is an educational suburb of Anand, is also well-known product of the city. Rapid economic growth has taken place along the Anand Vallabh Vidya Nagar and Karamsad road belt. It is on the path to become a Municipal Corporation, which will include various peripheral villages like Chikhodra, Lambhvel, V. V Nagar, Bakrol, Mogri and 20 other.

Anand History

The new government integrated the royal states into the state of Bombay after India became independent on 15th august 1947. Kheda district came into being on 1st august 1949. Certain changes were made after this in the villages of certain talukas. Villages were identified for different talukas of the district from 15th October 1950. Khambhat, Petalad, Borsad, Anand, Nadiad, Matar, Mahemdavad, Kapadvanj, Thasara and Balashinor talukas are a part of the Kheda district. From 1st October 1997, the State Government has formed six new districts. Anand has been carved out as a distinct district from Kheda. The Anand district consists of Umareth, Petalad, Sojitra, Borsad, Anklav, Khambhat and Tarapur talukas.

Anand is well-known as Charotar. Some of the villages located in this region are the villages of Borsad, Petalad and Anand talukas. It is nicknamed as Golden Leaf. It has the highest production of tobacco in Gujarat. The word Charutar means a pot full of gold coins in Gujarati language. The whole region is very fertile as well as very productive.
