Pelling

Pelling is located at a distance of 10 Kms from the district headquarter named Gyalshing. Following Gangtok, Pelling is fast catching up to be the second most popular vacationing spot in the Indian state of Sikkim. It is not a very big place, rather it is mainly a place where one can see the roads dotted with tourist accommodations. However, the main attractions of the place are the spectacular sights of the majestic Kanchenjunga and the other encircling mountain ranges.

Another attraction of the place is the Pemayangtse monastery, which is located close to Pelling, not more than 1 Km from it. Another place to visit is the Sanga Choling monastery, which can be reached by taking a small trek of about 20 minutes on the hill situated on the opposite side of the Pemayangtse monastery. The Sanga Choling monastery had been constructed in the year 1697. It is considered to be the first monastery to be built in the state of Sikkim. For the people, who want to enjoy a relaxing stroll amidst the beautiful nature, Pelling provides the perfect tranquil and charming environment. Tourists can visit Pelling in all seasons. Accommodations for tourists include hotels and resorts from high to low range.

Each year, Pelling hosts a festival named the Khangchendzonga Festival. This festival has been named after the protecting god of Sikkim. Adventurous activities such as white-water rafting on the Rangit, kayaking, promotional trekking, mountain biking, sightseeing, traditional sports and bird watching are carried out in this place. Other activities that are included in the festival are exhibitions of flowers, local crafts, ethnic food and costume stalls. Some fun elements in the festivals are the dance forms such as cultural folk dances and also musical shows.

By air: One can opt for the Bagdogra Airport in order to reach the place via air. From the airport one can opt for private cars and taxis. The distance between the airport and Pelling is 124 Kms.

By rail: New Jalpaiguri has the nearest railway station. Trains from major cities of India stops here.

By road: One can reach Pelling via private cars, shared jeeps or taxis.
