The districts of Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar of Punjab gave birth to Nawanshahr on November 7, 1995. It is also the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It became the 16th district of the state.
Places to visit
Gurudwara Charan Kanwal (Jeendowali): This Gurudwara was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh. It was built in the fond memory of Guru Hargobind Singh. The daughter of Sardar Dhanna Singh built the pool in front of the gurudwara. Bhai Seva Singh built the langar. SGPC takes care of the gurudwara.
Gurudwara Gurpartap: This gurudwara is located in the village of Thana Behram. This place has been visited by Guru Teg Bahadur. He dug a well here due to scarcity of water. The land belonged to Maharaja Ranjit Singh that he gave away later for the construction of the gurudwara.
Suraj Kund Rahon: This kund has relations to Lord Ram. It is believed that there are only two and a half kunds in India out of which one is this one located at Rahon. The rest being one at Nasik and half at Haridwar.
Baba Balraj Temple Balachaur: It is believed that Baba Raj Dev came here to this place and meditated. This temple was built by his son in his fond memory. The temple was built in the year 1596.
Sanehi Temple: Pandit Nihal Chand, Pandit Mool Raj Gautam, Pandit Shri Kant Gautam and Pandit Indu Dutt Gautam laid the foundation of this temple on December 18, 1869. It took 6 years to complete this temple. On December 15, 1865, the inauguration of the temple took place.
Kirpal Sagar: It consists of an egg shaped pool. At four corners are made worship places of four religions – Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Christian.
