Nandankanan National Park
The Nandankanan National Park is situated 20 kilometers from Bhubaneswar. It is surrounded by the Chandaka Forest. There is abundant natural beauty found here. The park also has a lake by the name Kanjia. There is also a botanical garden that adds to its charm. It is called ‘Garden of Pleasure’ by its tourists.
There are 34 fresh water aquaria present here. This zoo also has various reptiles such as snakes, crocodiles, turtles, etc. The park also nests various endangered species and add up to the animal crowd.
The views of some animals are breath taking, such as Nilgiri Langur, Sangal Lion, Asiatic Lion, etc. The white tiger is the most prized possession of this place. More and more people are attracted to catch a glimpse of this auspicious creature. This national park takes pride in taking utmost care and preservation of this specie. There are total 34 white tigers that are preserved. There are 68 endangered species that are protected and preserved. Apart from the endangered species, there are 166 unique species of birds, mammals and reptiles.
There are also activities to participate in such as, safaris, boating, etc. while you visit the sanctuary. The species protected include three species of Indian Crocodiles, Asiatic Lion, Lion tailed Macaque, Nilgiri Langur, Indian Pangolin and mouse deer. There are also approximately 81 species of birds that one can find.
One can travel around the national park using the safaris facility. You can visit the Botanical Garden by taking the ropeway from the zoo. Boat rides can also be enjoyed in the lake within the park. It is the most ideal place for a family excursion.
How to Reach
By rail: Bhubaneswar is the nearest railhead.
By air: The nearest airport is situated at Bhubaneswar.
By road: It is located 20 kilometers from Bhubaneswar and one can use bus, taxis, auto-rickshaws to reach Nandankanan as per convenience and preference.
