Kalimpong is a well-known hill station in India. It is on the lesser Himalaya and a part of the district of Darjeeling.  It is renowned for its Science Centre that was set up in 2008 under the DGHC (Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council). This is the place where not only the students but also the adults are taught about the awareness of science. In the recent years science has endowed us with various equipments and medicines. Even the grown up people are not always aware of certain things. Therefore this centre helps the tourists to get acquainted with those unknown facts. A survey shows that for last few years the number of tourists visiting this place per year has increased, due to the establishment of the science centre.
 
Kalimpong is counted among the major Ginger producing area in India. Kalimpong contributes about 15% of ginger in India. It also contributes 4% of tea production in India. Cheese, noodles and lollipops are famous cuisine of this place. Apart from the delicious dishes this place is largely popular for its wide range of handicrafts, wood carvings, and embroidered items-such as purse and bags. Even the tourists can also purchase Tibetan jewellary and artifacts. It is also known for its famous educational institution that was established during the colonial period. 

Tourists attraction in Kalimpong-

Thongsha Gompa- it is a Bhutanese monastery that was built in 1692 in the Bhutanese period. This place symbolizes peace and tranquility. It is one of the oldest monasteries.

Nature Interpretation Centre- it is basically looked after by the Forests Department. This place fundamentally deals with the ecology of the nature. It focuses on the flora and fauna.

Army Golf Club- it is on the hill side. Here training is given to the soldiers and its view is mesmerizing. It is an ideal place for photography.

Zong Dog Palri Fo Brang Monastery- it was built by Dalai Lama in 1976. It has an outstanding view of snow and valley. The view makes the tourists speechless.

St. Teresa Church- this church was built by the local craftsmen to resemble the Gompa. The special feature of this church is the carvings in the wall where the bible scenes have been depicted. It is an eye catching feature of this church. It is an example of Tibetan influence.

Mangal Dhaam- it has been recently constructed by as a place for worship. This has been built on the memory of Shree Guru Mangal Dasji. This is the fabulous and remarkable work of architecture. 

Deolo View point- it is located at the top of Deolo hill. It is the highest point in Kalimpong from where the tourist can have a view of the Kalimpong.  It serves as a view point for the tourists. The view of Kalimpong from the top is awe-inspiring and stunning. 

Kali Mandir- it is a Hindu temple that has a statue of Goddess Kali. The temple is very famous among the local people. 

Durpin Dara- it is on the Durpin hill. The top offers a mesmerizing view of the rolling plains of Siliguri, River Teesta and Ranjit Valley. The tourist can also have a view of Kanchendzonga range in the North West horizon, Chola range, where the Nathula pass lies is on the east. It also has a Golf course with gentle slopes. 

Kalimpong Art and Crafts Centre- this is the centre that produce wide variety of handicraft at a reasonable rate. Many people work in this centre. It not only adds to the economy of the place but also helps in employment. 

Dharmodaya Vihar- this a Nepali Buddhist Temple situated a bit away from the town. It has a statue of Buddha which was donated to the temple by the Burmese Buddhist.  It also has a library that has a huge collection of old books.

Flower, Orchid and exotic flower nursery- there are many flower orchids in Kalingpom. Gladioli, cacti, roses, dahlia, amaryllis and many more different varieties of flowers are found here. 

Few places for excursion from Kalimpom

Lava- it is 34kmns away from Kalimpong. It is popular for natural exploration and bird watching. The tourists may see different species of birds over here. This is an ideal place for trekking. 

Lolegaon- it is situated about 25kms away from the Kalimpong. It is a view point ofor snow range of Singalila Range. 

Teesta Valley- it is the main drainage of Sikkim, Kalimpong and Darjeeling region. It is 14kms away from the Kalimpong.

How to reach

By AIR The nearest airport from Kalimpong is Bagdogra near Siliguri. Kalimpong is 70kmns away from Bagdogra. Taxi is available from Bagdogra, which would charge Rs 1500. 

By TRAIN The nearest station of Kalimpong is Siliguri which is also an important station of North Bengal. Taxi/cab is always available which would charge Rs.1500.

By BUS Kalimpong is connected with other places through its bus route. Both private and state buses are available here. 

Best time to visit Kalimpong 
 
Like other hill stations Kalimpong has an intense cold with gentle summer and moderate monsoon. The best time to visit Kalimpong from February to May. The weather at this time is quite pleasant for the tourists to visit.
