Chatra
The north-eastern portion of the Indian state of Jharkhand contains the district of Chatra. This region also comes within the southern plateau region of the state. The altitude of the place is 300 to 600 meters above the sea level. The district contains rivers such as Damodar and Barakara. Dense green woods and forests makes up the major portion of the district.
Chatra contains a rich historical past and intense customs and traditions. There are many things to see in Chatra like the Buddhist remains, the temple of Bhadrakali, the Tamasin Fall and many more.
PLACES TO VISIT IN CHATRA
Bhadra Kali Temple: The distance of this place from the Itkhori Block is a mere 1.5 Kms. The river named Buxa encircles this site on its three facades. One can also see the Maa Bhadrakali Temple. Dense green forests encircle this temple.
Tamasin Fall: The distance of this waterfall and Chatra is 26 Kms. This fall provides a mesmerizing view for the visitors. This location can be accessed by going through deep woods. One can see a great number of monkeys here.
Jain & Buddhist Relics: The relics of Buddhist sanctuary can be found at a distance of 1 Km in the east direction of the Barwadi Pankhri.
Raham Cave: On the north direction of Satpahar, the Raham Cave is situated. As per facts, during the time period of 19th century, this cave used to serve as a dwelling place for the Tana Bhagats. One can see the mandalas on the cave walls, which have been painted in red hematite.
Cave Painting: The Tandwa Block of the district of Chatra contains villages named Saraiya and Thetangi. Here, in these villages, one can see several cave paintings and drawings. Ancient paintings are found on the walls of the caves in Tandwa.
Sidpa: In the west direction of the Satpahar, the Sidpa rock shelter is located. Here, one can see several paintings and figures of deer and bulls and also patterns of tattoos, which were made and used by the females of the tribal group.
Nautangwa Cave: The hill range called Mahadeva or Mohundi contains the Nautangwa cave shelter. It is present in the upper portion of the Damodar Valley. Several excellent animal forms and intriguing statues are present here.
Barkagaon , Barwadi Punkhri: This megalith location called Barwadi Punkhri is located at a distance of 6 Kms from Barkagaon, a town. The megalith clusters are present around the boundary of the area, which takes the form of concentric circles.
Kalhua Pahari: There are many archaeological remains on the Kalhua Pahari in the district of Chatra. These remains mirror the mixing up of other principal religions. One can also see an archaic temple of Durga. The resident deity of the temple is Kaleshwari.
Goa fall: The distance of this fall from Chatra is 6 miles.
Kolhwa Hill or Kaleshwari Hill or Temple: The distance between the Hunterganj Block and this hill is a mere 10 Kms. The altitude of this hill is 1575 feet. In order to go up this hill, there are stair ways present. For the people, who follow Hindu religion and Jainism, there are several sacred locations on the hill.
