Namchi

Namchi is located at a distance of 78 Kms from the town of Gangtok. The word ‘Namchi’ stands for ‘top of the sky’. The administrative headquarters of the South district is located in Namchi. Having set against a breathtakingly beautiful backdrop, Namchi is rising to be a very popular vacationing spot. From Namchi, one can observe the spectacular sight of the Khangchendzonga range and also the serene Rangit valley.

Monasteries: Other attractions of the place are the Sherdup Choeling Monastery and the Dichen Choeling Monastery, which are situated in Namchi. The ancient Ngadak Monastery is located at a distance of 2 Kms from the town of Namchi. Restoration works are being carried out in this monastery.

Rock Garden: The Rock Garden is located on top of a hill structure, which is situated above the monastery of Ngadak. It is a very appealing place. Visitors can observe some very uncommon flowers and plants. Spectacular view of the surrounding areas can also be obtained from this location.

Namchi Mahotsav: Each year, in the month of October, Namchi Mahotsav, which is very well-liked event here, is held in Namchi. Also, hosted each year, is a flower festival.

Statue of Guru Padamasambhava: Close to Namchi, another of the locations to visit is the altitudinous statue of Guru Padamasambhava. The height of the statue is 135 feet. It is located in Samdruptse. The distance between this place and Gangtok is 75 Kms. In the Bhutia language, the word ‘Samdruptse’ stands for ‘wish fulfilling hill’. In the entire world, this statue is considered to be the most altitudinous statue of Guru Padamasambhava. In the year 1997, in the month of October, the foundation of the work was laid down by His Holiness, the Dalai Lama. To finish the work of the statue, a time period of three years was required.

Namchi Rock Garden: In between the town of Namchi and Samdruptse, the Namchi Rock Garden is situated. Numerous varieties of appealing and vibrant flowers, plants and also trees are present in this garden. Visitors can treat themselves to some food in the cafeteria.
