It is a popular Hindu religious destination, nested beautifully on the banks of majestic river Periyar. It is the birth place of great saint Adi Shankarar, who found the Advaita order, lived in 8th century. The Shringeri mutt is the major attraction on Kalady. Various legends claims that Lord Krishna has blessed Adi Shankarar and river originated from his feet (Kalady). The unusual turn of river Periyar in Kalady is witnessing the associated legend. Kalady is popular among devotees as it houses memorial shrine of Adi Shankarar, called Sri Adi Shankara Keerthi  Sthamba  mandapam which is established by Kanchi Kamakotti mutt. The nine floor sacred shrines showcases the life history of Guru Adi Shankarar and six means of prayers. There are other shrined dedicated to Lord Dhakshinamurthy and Goddess Sharadha located in temple premises.  

An ancient Jain temple built during 9th century.  The temple is proudly extended in area of 28 acres. It is a rock carved temple and offers a short trekking of 12o steps. Goddess Durga Devi is the main deity. Parshvanath and Mahavir are other worshipped deities.

It is one of the renowned ashrams in Inda. It is a memorial monument of great saint and visionary Sri Ramakrishna,  built in 1936. It is a simple ashram adorned by pleasant prayer hall, statue of Sri Ramakrishna,  lively paintings and pictures of Sri Ramakrishna and Sharada Devi , beautiful gardens and lovely flowers. Best place to meditate and to attend disclose and preaches on Sri Adi Shankarar and Sri Ramakrishna. It is very closelu located to Keerthisthambam and Shringeri Mutt.

Keerthistambam, a pillar of fame built as a  memorial monument of Sri Adi Shankarar, located on the banks of river Periyar. The pillar was perched on the top of Keerthisthamba Mandabam established by Kanchi Mutt.  Lively statue of Adi Shankarar is placed on the top of this structure, walls surrounding the statue is presenting inscriptions about mission and life of Sri Adi Shankarar.

It was once the house of great saint Sri Adi Shankarar, located on the northern shores of river Periyar.  It houses many small sacred shrines. Temple dedicated to Goddess Saradhamba and Shankaracharya are famous among the shrines. Mutt offers vedic courses and promotes debates on religious leaders, personalities and eminent scholars. Navarathri festival is grandly celebrated with heightened pomp and show.

Kuzhipillykavu Jaladurga temple, Mahadeva temple, Vamanamoorthy temple, Angamaly Buddhist town,  Sri Krishna temple, Manickamangalam Karthiyayani temple, Thekke Madhom temple,  Kalady Kadavu and Nayathodu Shankaranarayana temple are other popular places to visit.

Cochin international airport is closest airport, 30 km from Kalady. Coimbatore airport and Bangalore international airports are located 117 km and 366 km from Kalady respectively.

Alwaye railhead is located in Kalady and well connected to all major Indian cities. Angamaly and Aluva are alternative railway stations to located respectively 7 km and 11 km from Kalady.

State owned and private run buses are well connecting Kalady to neighboring  and major districts of Kerala.
