Kakkabe

It is picturesque tiny village of Kodagu district of Karnataka. This beautiful hill station is nestled in the midst of dense rain forest under a silhouette of Thadiyendamol hilltop. Kakkabe is the place of prestigious honors as the largest honey producing village in South-east Asia. Thadiyendamol peak is the tallest peak in Kakkabe from where one can even get a glimpse of Arabian Sea. It is noteworthy place of aromatic coffee and cardamom plantations, lush green paddy cultivations, undulated mist covered hills, salubrious climate and beautiful scenery all around. It is land of harmony of various cultures and communities. Kakkabe is homage for an extraordinary and rare plants and orchids. The thick rain forest is a natural habitat of several wildlife species like barking deer, flying squirrels, pangolin and many more. It is paradise for bird watchers as there are plenty of eye catching bird species are always available to enchant visitors. Trekking and rock climbing are the most fun filled and thrilling activities here. Nalnad Palace and Lguthappa temple are other major attractions of Kakkabe.


Places to visit

Nalnad Palace

It was built by Dodda Viraraja in 1792. It amuses visitors by its enthralling architecture and marvelous paintings.

Iguthappa Temple

It is important temple of Kodavs tribes, dedicated to Lord Iguthappa another form of Lord Subramanya. Annual farmer’s festival is celebrated in the month of March.

Tadiyendamol Peak

It is the highest peak, around 1746 meters from sea level. It offers an excellent view of entire Kakkabe region and evergreen forests. It is the second highest peak and first being the Mullayanagiri in Chikmagalur district. It is the trekker’s paradise and famous for its unspoiled forests and enchanting climate.

By Air

Mangalore domestic airport is 135 km from Kakkabe is the closest airport.

By Train

Mysore, Hassan and Kannur railway stations are nearby railheads which are located at a distance of 125, 115 and 110 km from Kakkabe respectively.

By Road

The bus connectivity is extremely good to reach Kakkabe from almost all major cities of Karnataka.
