Dhanushkod is a small beach town located on the southern tip of holy town Rameshwaram. This hamlet is reached at a distance of 15 km from Rameshwaram.   It was once served as wonderful tourist spot and famous temple town but the entire town was washed away on 1964 by severe cyclone. It is declared as ghost town by Government of India. There are very few fishermen lives here with their family. Tourists can see some serene remains and buildings that are survived after the storm. It is the place where Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal meets. Holy dip in Dhanushkodi is considered as a part of Rameshwaram Pilgrimage. One can find the mysterious bridge called Ram Sethu or Adam’s Bridge which barely connects India and Srilanka. 

It is also known as Rama Sethu or Rama Brdge which draws many visitors to Dhanushkodi. The origin of this brdge is unknown. It was completely made up of limestones measuring 30 km in length.  It holds high religious significance. It is believed that Lord Rama has built this Bridge to reach Srilanka to fight with Ravana and to rescue Sita Devi. This mysterious Bridge is barely connecting Indian mainland to Srilanka. 

It is a famous National Park in Gulf of Mannar located in the area of 560 sq km. It is a part of Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve which is sprawled over 10,500 sq km. There are 21 islands and several beaches, mudflats, estuaries and forests. The park is rich in bio diversity. It serves as homage for sea horse, sea cow, sea cucumbers, dolphins and several more flora and fauna. One can find 3600 varieties of flora and fauna in this Marine Park.

It is considered as meeting point of Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal. It is a place of religious significance of Hindus. An ablution in this sea is considered sacred and serene. Pilgrimage of Rameshwaram will not be completed without taking the holy dip at this beach. 

The remains of Dhanuskodi railway station is another point of attraction. It is a sad witness of the mysterious cyclone. On December 22, 1964 Pampan Dhanuskodi Passenger with 110 passengers was hit by the storm and high tidal waves. The complete train was submerged into water and killed all the passengers on spot. 

Madurai domestic airport is the nearest one, located 167 km fromDhanuskodi.

Rameshwaram railway station is closest one, located 18 km from Dhanushkod.

There are several bus services available to reach Madurai and Rameshwaram. From Rameshwaram, there are many private vehicles available to visit Dhanushkodi.

In general climate is pleasant and cool throughout the year. During summer temperature ranges from 27°c to 34°c and in winter 17°c to 22°c. It is best visited throughout the year.
