Karaikudi is the centre point of Chettinad, 82 km from Madurai. located in the Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu between Trichy and Rameshwaram. Karaikudi is the biggest city in Chettinad and is famous for its Ganesha Temple, Saris, Distinctive Cuisine and Majestic Mansions. Includes about 72 villages of which many of them were once the homes of wealthy merchant families known as the Chettiars. it is an area of mostly isolated impressive mansions. The place derives its name from the famous plant "Karai" which abounds in the area.

Pillaiyar Patti Lord Ganesha Temple Karaikudi is celebrated for this rock-cut holy place which is situated about 12 kms from Karaikudi on the Karaikudi Madurai road. About 1600 years old, this temple was constructed by the early Pandiya kings
Shopping The place is well-known for the tiles that are a pleasure to ornament the home interiors. The handmade tiles can be buying from the manufacturing works at lower rates than the market price.
