OverView of Nagar Fort
NagarFort Tahsil headquarters Tonk district an ancient settlement of Rajasthan.The ancient settlement might have destroy because of floods of river Galva. The excavation took place by Archaeological survey of India revels that earthen potteries of 200 B.C.were found and some of the artifacts of this period are displayed in Hawa Mahal Musiem Jaipur. There is fortification wall all around the old village abadi, there fore it is known as Nagar Fort.At western side it is surrounded by a huge lake.At about 2k.m. distance there is religious place known as Mandakalan. At this place temples of various communities are located all around the lake.In the south of the village about 1 k.m.distance there is ancient historic temple of Lord Shiva(Muchkandeshwar).The village community is basically agrarian community.Some of the community is engaged in carpet industry.
Location: It is located at a distance of about 29 kms. from Tonk the district head quarter and well connected by State highway no34. Pt.Shriniwas Sharma was a freedom fighter who hailed from this village.He was awarded with Bronze medal in 1985 during Indian National Congress Centaner In freedom movment he was actively involvedwas closely associated with Pt.Heera Lal Shastri the first Chief Minister of Rajasthanwho was founder of Banasthli Vidhya Peeth. Pt.Shriniwas Sharma also remained Sarpanch of village panchayat. During His tenure development works such as construction of Bathing Ghats around lake,improvement of village enterence by puncturing fortified wall and improvement of water longing kutcha rasta were executed.There are about 17 temples in the village of which 5 are very prominent.These five temples are Lal bihari ji ka mandir ( which have idols from gupta period) , Rani Ji Ka Mandir,Shyam Ji Ka Mandir,Char Bhuja ji Ka Mandir and Nrisingh Mandir.
