OverView of Maha Kabui

The name Maha Kabui was taken  from the earlier name of the village i.e. Maha Koireng( since it was once settled by Koireng tribe). But since the particular land was an old ancestral land of the Rongmei/Kabui tribe, thus Chongso Koireng (khullakpa of Maha Koireng) once again handed the particular land to a party of Rongmei community headed by Shri. Aton(Pouhomgai) Gangmei in the year 1966 somewhere in the month of January (according to the record). And thus after which the Maha Koireng was change into Maha Kabui Namching, and the first settlement of this newly founded village was carried out under the leadership of Shri. Aton Gangmei. He dedicated this new land with his sacrificial commitment to God. From that very moment Shri. Aton Gangmei become the founder i.e. Khunpu/Chief of Maha Kabui Namching Village. 

According to the customary practice of Rongmei tribes, the founder of the village is to be known by the name 'Nampou' Or Khunbu/Khunpu (in general meitei dialect). Thus the village authority was under Nampou/Khunpu in Maha Kabui Namching Village. Whereas khullakpa comes next to Khunpu/Chief/Nampou as a next hierarchy in the whole village administration. So, Shri. Senkaiba was appointed as the first khullakpa of the village by the voices of the people of the village. 

Since the founding of the village, Maha Kabui Namching was also began to known as 'Namching' in a shorter nomenclature. There were many challenges and hindrances faced by the early group of people who settled there. But later on the village began to increases its popularity as a result many others people of Zeliangrong community mainly the Rongmei were began to start settling in the village. After 3 years, Mr. Senkaiba Gonmei was disliked by the villagers for his mis functioning the administration so he was replaced by one elder of the village i.e. Shri Alemba as a new khullakpa(2nd khullakpa) of Namching Village in 1969.

So, the helmet like village was founded and administrated by following the ancestral customary law of the land. It would be worth to be noted that the different tribes have it's own different traditions/customs Likewise, this very village is also have its vivid administrative set up in the pattern of the Rongmei customary practices even though the village is a Christian village. The following are the list of the officials of the village:-

1. Khunpu/Nampou/Chief: He is the ex-officio head of the village by virtue. 

2. Khullakpu/Khullakpa/Namgakpou/Administrator

He is the overall head next to Khunpu

3.Peipou: He is the head of the council of Elders of the village, who is overall in charge of judging the crimes/problems in the village.
