Write up on Lord Manjughosh Mahadev Temple
The site of ancient temple of Lord Manjughosh Mahadev situated at hilltop of village Kanda, Patti, Rawatsyun, Block Kot, District Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, India. The temple is just 20 kms away by road and 6 kms by tracking from Srinagar Garhwal of Uttarakhand State. It is one of the ancient temples of the region and believed that its existence is way back from the Dwapar Yug, which is inscribed in Skanda Puran’s Kedarkhand (Page No.722 of Chapter 180).
It was believed that the temple shape of Manjughsoh Mahadev Taposthali (devotion land) was re-constructed under the direction of Adi Guru Shankaracharyaji in the mid 11th century and the beautiful stone carving on the idols of Lords and Goddesses were carved by the ancient artists in the 12th Century period. The temple is situated at a height of about 3000 feet from the sea level. The picturesque scenes, holiness of the site, peaceful place and the ancient idols are of the great source of inspiration for the pilgrims.
From the centuries, every year on the days of Baliraj and Bhaiya Dooj which falls in the month of Kartik (October and November), devotees from far flung regions and even from the different states and countries visits the temple along with their kiths and kins and offer prayers to the Lord Shiva and Goddess Kali. During these two days about 50,000 devotees visited the temple which is increasing every year. Small traders from all over the State and even from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi put their stalls for the devotees during these two days.
From the year 2004, a group of devotees under the banner of Lord Mahadev Sewa Samiti have started worshipping Lord Shiva on the last Monday falls in the month of Shravan (August). The Samiti brings holy ganga water from the confluence (sangam) of Alkananda and Mandakini Rivers at Rudraprayag and offering the water to the Shivalinga performing prayers of Lord Shiva and holy words of Om Namah Sivaya.
The other important days of devotion and celebration at the temple are Janmashtami, Mondays of Shravan month, Maha Shivratri and last Monday of the shravan month.
