Pauri Garhwal, with its administrative headquarters at Pauri, is a district in Uttarakhand state of India. The district is surrounded by Haridwar, Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Almora and Nainital districts from three sides. It shares boundaries with Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh in south. It is partially located in the Gangetic plains with the majority part in the Himalayan North. It was known as the district of Garhwal district after independence. It was further divided into Pauri Garhwal and Chamoli districts in 1960. The district of Rudraprayag was formed by carving out an additional area from Pauri Garhwal, merged with some parts of Chamoli and Tehri Garhwal districts, in the year 1997. Ransi, which is the highest ground in Asia, is situated in Pauri.
Pauri Garhwal History
Pauri Garhwal district was ruled by the Pal dynasty, as a part of the former Garhwal Kingdom. T from Sri Nagar. In 1803, the Gurkhas defeated the army of King Pradyumna Shah and succeeded in annexing Garhwal. In 1816, the British defeated the Gurkhas in the Anglo-Nepalese War, and The Garhwal Kingdom was re-established from Tehri after the British won the Anglo-Nepalese war with the Gurkhas. The smallest village in Pauri Garhwal is Andkil.
Pauri Garhwal Climate
The district enjoys pleasant weather in summers and cold weather during winters. In rainy season it is very cool with full of greeneries. However, Kotdwar and the adjoining areas of Bhabar experience quite hot weather during summers with the temperature reaching to a maximum of about 40 degree Celsius.
