OverView of Chinchane
This village establish by patil's (gawda's) in 16th century. They migrated from mahadev hills to badami (karnataka) and come here and develop the place. This village have great history of freedom fighter to get independent. Main occupation is farming. And have big culture, there are three main temples in village sri. Masnai devi and sri. Laxmi devi, & god mahadev. Yearly three festivals are happening on dashara and in month of feb. Sri laxmi devi festival (yatra) happens ones in 11 years. God mahadev festival and other festival were very big celebration in village. Other than hanuman jayanti, and all local festivals are celebrating every year. There were 70% peoples are koli mahadev tribe. All these people as koli mahadev naming as they came mainly from mahadev hills & also balaghat hills. In imperial kolhapur state gazetteer-1886 page-106, existence of raj kolis, mahadev kolis & kaber kolis is noted. In the castes & tribes of bombay presidency vol.ii, 1922 page-256 by r.e. Enthoven ics supdt. Of ethnology of bombay province, existence of mahadev kolis is noted in kolhapur state specially. In census of india 1931 vol.8 part-2 of bombay presidency chandgad talukaskoli mahadev people are shown in the belgaum district, because before 1956 chandgad taluka was in belgaum district of bombay presidency, & the district census handbook report 1951 of belgaum page 118 to 119 chandgad taluka scheduled tribe peoples are shown specially. After 01-11-1956 chandgad was included in kolhapur district. Chinchane-kamewadi villages are in reserved forest area (r.f.) Of sahyadri ranges & big stones are there fixed by british authorities. All these people are original, pure & genuine mahadev kolis.
