OverView of Nurpur
Nurpur was founded by Raja Jeth Pal, younger brother of ruler of Delhi. in 11th century. It was known as Dhameri before queen of Mughal emperor Jahngir got so much fascinated by the place that she wanted to build her own palace at Nurpur but because of fear of a imaginary disease she abondened the plan. But to commemorate her visit Raja of Nurpur named town after name of Nurjahan. Nurpur was ruled by Pathania clan of rajputa(Tanwar of Chandervanshi origin) Capital of Nurpur was at Pathankot which is now in Punjab. Pathania had ruled here for more than 8 centuries before 1947 Kingdom reached its peak during the reign of Raja Basu from 1580 to 1613 who built a imprassive fort at Nurpur which is still present in Nurpur. Nurpur is now mucnicipal of Kangra district and a tehsil and block also. Nurpur is also know for its orchards, which grow crops of mango, oranges and leechi and amla also. It is alos know for its Pashmina shawls and silk cloths.About MLA
Son of Col. Kahan Singh, Rakesh Pathania was brought into the world on 15th of November, 1964 at Village Ladori, District Kangra. A Graduate he got his education from Pune, Allahabad and Amritsar. He is happily married and is father of one boy and one girl. As a Political and Social Worker, he, started his political vocation in 1991; remained President of Bharatiya Janata Party Kisan Morcha, Distt. Kangra, thereafter State Secretary, Bharatiya Janata Party Kisan Morcha; and remained the Member of BJP State Executive.
He was chosen for the State Legislative Assembly (MLA) in 1998 as BJP candidate from Nurpur assembly constituency, Himachal Pradesh. He also remained Chairman of Tourism Development Corporation from 1998-2003. After that he was again chosen as Member of legislative assembly in December, 2007 as an Independent candidate. He was chosen for thirteenth Vidhan Sabha (third term) in December 2017 and was assigned as Chairman, Public Administration Committee and Member, Public Accounts and Rule and Library and Member Amenities Committees. He currently holds the position of cabinet Minister of Forest, Youth and Sports in Himachal Pradesh Govt
His is quite active in sports and does swimming and athletics regularly.
