OverView of Bodal

Bodal, is a very old village in Hoshiarpur District of Punjab it can be reached via Gardhiwala from Hoshiarpur , Bodal was a Muslim Village, when Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji (1595-1644) Sixth Sikh Guru was travelling in this north part of Hoshiarpur district Preaching Sikhism , it was a very beautiful area with mountains far surrounding the scenery, With greenery as seen throughout Punjab. Surrounding the Village was a dense forest of Garna trees, When Guru Sahib was crossing this forest a bush of dried Garna cought Guru Sahib dress. Guru Sahib asked his Sikhs to bury it in the ground and Guru Hargobind Sahib blessed that you have stopped us now in future you will stop problems of people real life. Then Guru Sahib with his Sikhs left for Mukerian Village. When Guru Sahib came here back on his next trip there was a fully grown Garna tree, Guru Sahib sat under the Garna tree, a person of this village named Bhai Chuhar a Muslim Bard sang Shabad (Singing of the sacred Hymns) in front of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, Guru Sahib blessed him and gave him a Rabab and left for further journey.

Bodal Being a Muslim Village, the owner of the land ordered to cut the forest, He got the Garna tree cut, The next day he saw that the tree was standing of same height, He again got it cut. But when on the third day he asked to cut it there was a Akashbani that this tree will remain for centuries and you will not be able to finish it. The Muslim land owner left this village, and moved some where else.

During the Sikh Rule in Punjab (1707-1849), This village and area came under the Control of Ramgarhia Misl one of the many ruling Sikh confederacies, Sardar Jodh Singh Ramgarhia (d.1815) in whose territory Bodal lay, got built the first Gurdwara at the Historic site. Later Sardar Ishar Singh Ramgarhia of Taqipur Village a village 6 km northeast of Bodal got the present day Gurdwara Garna Sahib rebuilt.
