Kothapullareddypuram is a Village in Veldurthy mandal of Guntur district. It is about 28kms from Macherla, we should travel for 8kms towards srisailam route from Macherla, thereafter we should take right turn after crossing mandadi towards kothapullareddypuram for 20kms. Then we can reach this village.Though we have buses to reach this village, it is situated in remote area, This village is surrounded with forest and krishna river flows about 4.5kms away from this village. This village is closely to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana border lying Nalgonda and Mahbubnagar districts, which is nearer from this village.The Population of this village is around 3000, it is a Grama Panchayat, the majority of the people living here are Lambadis, the banjaras. The village named as kothapullareddypuram hence "Kotha" itself says that it is a new village, mean that people of this village are migrated from another place where it was named as pullareddygudem and people of this village stayed here. At present they were living here since 55 years.
As above said that the people of this village were stayed before in "pullareddygudem" which it is nearer to Nagarjuna sagar, 'Kotha' is added to the older name. Hence people of this place were migrated to the new place with all there things, families, cattles and sheeps. The main reason for their migration was, construction of nagarjuna sagar dam, it seems the nagarjuna sagar dam was build in those days. The most parts of the villages came under the dam back water area, so the people nearer and around to this dam were forced to go to safer place.The Nagarjuna sagar dam is constructed for 12 years from around 1955 to 1963.
There are few small villages around pullareddygudem were also migrated to different places for surviving, this place was occupied by the government for construction of the dam. Few village people crossed the river area and settled there, it comes under Nalgonda district and few of them were scattered to different parts towards in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.
Around 400 years ago Acharya Nagarjuna the great Buddhist philosopher and preacher of buddhism who is also called as second Buddha was lived in this area. He ruled this area with vijayapuri as the capital, hence nagarjuna sagar named in the name of the great acharya nagarjuna.
All the village people around nagarjuna sagar worked as labour in the part of the construction of the great Nagarjuna sagar dam, it is constructed in the period of Jawaharlal Nehru ,when he was as Prime Minister of India. During constrution of this dam a lot of sculptures, idols,coins and other historical things were excavated from earth. All this things were kept and exhibited in Nagarjunakonda museum.
