OverView of Basgana
It is one of the smallest(by area) village of Giridih District. It has a primary govt school but lacks a hospital or a nursing home. The electricity has been provided in the recent years too though its not maintained well.
People
mainly depend on farming and manrega for a living.
The village was established by Shree Meghlal Rai. He always dreamt of a free India and wanted to raise the poor sections of society so he brought some poor villagers from his old place(kharidih) and gave some land to them for farming and cattle rearing. The women were to sow the grains and the men were to reap it similarly, the men were to feed the cattle and the women were to milk them.
The
water was a big problem for the villagers so wells were dug at different key
locations which are still as good as it was a hundred years ago, serving the
same purpose.
When the freedom of our country was close in aroung 1935, the local british officers got some clue of Shre Meghlal Rai's support to freedom fighters in the form of money and grains due to which he lost quite a large portion of his land.
After
India became Independent, He became the Mukhya of the panchayat. He retained
the post all his life and after him his son Shre Janardan Rai was able to do
the same, such was the people's love for him.
There
is a river flowing on the three sides of village and several ponds which serves
as a habitat for several birds, fishes, insects, some wild horses. The best
time to see the birds is march and june when migratory birds fill the river bed
and the farms. There are also some species of fox, wild dogs and wolves. The
intire village is filled with trees some dating back to hundred of years. At
summer there is excess of mangoes, you can just pluck it with your hands and
eat it, there are also tamarind, baer and guava trees trees in large numbers.
But the Paraas trees are in the largest numbers, covering the whole earth with red flowers. Its so beautiful to look at them in the month of march.
