OverView of Wahlyngkhat
Wahlyngkhat village is located south of Shillong in the East Khasi Hills district along the National High Way 40. It is a beautiful place in the eastern south of E K Hills district opposite to Sohra (Cherrapunjee). The Wahlyngkhat range is almost at the same height with Sohra. We may see parts of Bangladesh and south and western parts of the Riwar areas. The temperature here is moderate throughout the year and it is best suited for residential area. The village is under the administration of the Raid Nongblai, Khyrim Syiemship from time immemorial. Twenty years before the village have of not more than 10 households but now it have more than 250 houses. The villagers are cultivators and most of them live Under Poverty Line. The literacy rate are; 10% educated, 87% literates and 3% illiterate. Christian citizen are almost more than 50% of the villagers.
The village has a very good system of administration by framing its own constitution launched in the General Durbar since 2002 which has helped the village authority to maintain peace and security, for the benefit of all the villagers in the village.Every one is treated equally before law by applying clauses and verses from the constitution.So far this is the only village having its own constitutions and power is executed carefully under the provision of the laws.
The village is famous in organizing a yearly big cultural programme known as "Shad Suk Mynsiem" where all the people from all the surrounding areas and the district used to come and take part in this programme.
Football is the main sport activity for the young people in the village.
Special Note: The place is very beautiful for tourist spot and Eco-park. It is a view point to 60% parts of the Riwar Areas and if properly develop it has the capability to be the sports center for the Riwar Mihngi Area under the Pynursla Development Block.
