OverView of Lungthulien

Here is a very interesting tale of Lungthulien Village . Once upon a time there were a couple locally known as Vawmpa (male) and Vawmnu (female) who lives in VAWMPALUNG (a cave about 2 km east of Lungthulien Village).They loved each other very much, and lived in that particular cave for many years, one day Vawmpa climb on the tree near the cave, mistakenly Vawmpa fall down from the tree to the very deep gorge under it. He died at the spot.Vawmnu was very sad to know her husband died. She has to live alone. All her life was miserable after the death of her dearest. And everything is difficult for her. So, one day she also jump down from the tree where her dearest died. Therefore, both of them were gone. But the cave where they lived can still be seen even today. It is said that their bed, pillows, utensils were made out of stone. And it is one of the place which attract people from different parts of the areas. . During the olden days people were very fond of feast whenever they were in good fortune, in this big ocation they prepared a feast for the whole village. Likewise at the Mountain of Lungthulien (Lungthulien tlang) there were three big stone triangular pattern in shape on the ground ( locally known as Lungthu). These three stone were believed to be kept by a very strong man from the Village. During the olden days LUNGTHU was mainly used for cooking curry (meat). The villagers enjoy a very special day in this occasion. So it is belived that from these three particular stone the name of Lungthulien is derived. LUNGTHU (three stone triangular pattern in shape) LIEN (large, big etc). It is believe that the Chief of Senvon along with his ministers came to Lungthulien and settle first. After that different peoples from the near by Village came and settle in Lungthulien.The year 1924 is believed to be the year when they first settled in Lungthulien. . The people of Lungthulien are from the Hmar community and still adhere to traditional culture by observing those festivals connected with agricultural cycle and other community rites. Their traditions are best reflected in the folksongs and dances. . Marriage: The Lungthulians follow the patriarchal system of marriage. The practice of bride price is still prevalent and the youngest daughter usually gets an extra price called 'Nuzum'. The youngest of the male gets to inherit his family's home and is responsible to take care of family properties. . Religion : In earlier times the Hmars community practiced animism. They believed in “Pathien” or"Khuonu" (mother goddess) and animal sacrifices were made to them. Now almost 100% of the people of Lungthulien are Christians. Christianity was introduced to the Hmar tribe in the Year 1910. . There are numerous churches in the villages where religious rites are performed according to the tenets of Christianity. . Music: Khuong (drum) is the main musical instrument. It is still used in their worship servises. Others include Pheiphit (whistle made of bamboo), Theihlea (bamboo flute), Darkhuong (gong), Darbu (set of small gong), Darmang (flat brass gong), Seki (set of mithun horn), Hna Mut (Leaf instrument), Perkhuong (guitar made of bamboo), etc. . Majority of the peoples of Lungthulien village were engaged in agriculiture. They practice shifting cultivation and grows different crops. Their crops includes rice, corn/maize, ginger, cucumber etc. . One of the greatest festivals or events of Lungthulien village is the Village Tournament. It is a football tournament among the youth. They were divided into different teams, each teams were headed by a young beautiful lady along with her friends. (team competation is very high, since each team were headed by a young beautiful lady) The best team were awarded a very speciat prize.
