OverView of Surpada
Surpada is a Muhal means name given to cluster of many small villages of 1 to 4 houses scattered around a ridge rising from Shtrar Nag at Dhauladhar range disecnding down in oblique flattening valleys. But this whole area is still not having any road because of its being on very high hills and people living in Surpada Muhal is mostly Gaddies and who are used to walk on foot carrying even heavy weight on their back. The all villages remained snow covered during winter for 2 to 3 months so they gather articles of their needs before the onset of winter. The main occupation of the people of this village is rearaing goats and sheep and doing agriculture. They grow maize, barley and Rajmah and black gram etc. There are only two small shops at present to cater some few basic needs though the all villagers are dependent for their other facilities of shopping for cloths and rations etc and health and education on town Samot which is at least 5 to 7 kms from Surpada and that is too on foot steep descending path. Although there is a middle school at Tala and also water supply facility alongwith electricity except that there is no any other govt. facility in this remote and far fetched area. But due to Shatrar Nag people come here to worhip here and also to make picnic but only adventruous people or some time few daring hunters also visit this area to hunt Ghoral and also Black Bears and even musk deer sometime. Monal a bird with very colurful wings is also found in these high snowy peakss
