OverView of Gunti

Gunti is a famous historical village of raath region. The known history of this village goes back more than five hundred years

Near the beginning of sixteenth century a monk rested his sacred JHOLI on a neem tree which was grown on the extreme south of a hill. This incidence proved to be a landmark in the history of raath province. The monk was baba Chaturdasji Maharaj, a holy man known for his great Socio religious devotion, and the hill was the legendary hill of Gunti village. The inscription carved on a marble tile over the protected foot marks(paglya)of baba Chaturdasji reads"shri Mahant Maharaj Shri Chaturdasji Saket Dham Padhare. Miti Chaitra Shukla 8 Samvat 1611. It shows the death year of Chaturdasji Samvat 1611 that means 1564 A D. A hamlet of Gusain brahamins said to be flourished on the northern side of this hill at that time. Gusains requested Chaturdasji to settle his dhooni in the vicinity of their houses and not to take a risk in that lonely forest. But the holy soul replied " Main in jungli janwaron ka sewak hoon, yeh mujhe kya nuksan pahunchayenge. Tum dekhana yeh basti hi ek din yahan neem ke paas chali aayegi."

The future finding words of baba Chaturdas proved true and the village later von took its shape near that neem tree. Afghani Pathans made there residence here. They were Sultan Ibrahim Lodhi's army chief tons. Ibrahim was defeated in 1526 by Babar and after this set back some of his army men settled here who left this village at the time of partition in 1947.

The history of Gunti(Goonti) is very exciting and a must read to complete the knowledge of Rajasthan state. Ramanand Rathi ,a native resident of Gunti has written a classic book on Gunti.
