OverView of Gomat
Gomat is famous for very old Dauji temple. It is made of sandstone with its carvings are typical combinations of Vedic and Rajput art developing a typical Indian flavor of architecture. Carvings find best expression in Gomat's world famous havelies. Havelies are marvels in home architecture. These havelies or residential houses were built around 150-200 years back by the landlords of Gomat. They are the pride of Gomat. They are situated around the famous temple of Dauji. They are marvellous mansions made of red stone and stand magnificently.
Chamad
is the market place of the place. There is old banyan tree, with Chamad being
housed under the this old tree. One can buy items of daily use from the Chamad.
It is also a local hang out place.
There are other temples like Mahadev Temple, and Devi Temple.
Every year, Gomat hosts the famous fair of Baldev Chat. Thousands of devotees of Dauji Maharaj throng the Dauji temple during this Mela. Raas is enacted in nights during this 3-day Mela. Second of Mela is known for the Kali Maa Worship and play. Kali Maa takes a round of the village. On third and last day of the Chhat Mela locals shop with great fervor. Market of bangles is the key attraction among women.
Gomat has a unique Sansrit Pathashala (College). It is a government institute attached with the Sansrit Vidyapeeth, Varanasi, which imparts educaion in Sanskrit language.
