*THE STORY OF ZOHMUN VILLAGE*(Adapted from the article contributed by C. Kapmawia, as featured in the "Golden Jubilee (1955-2005) Souvenir" published by the Young Mizo Association, Zohmun Branch)*ORIGIN OF THE VILLAGE*The origins of Zohmun village can be traced to the migration of nine families from the villages of Uiko, Bizang, and Phaibawk in Manipur. Among these families were:-1. Lawmsawma, (the grandfather of Tlangluaha)2.Thangzaluta,(the grandfather of Liankunga)3. Laltindova, (the father of Khumtea)4. Hrangkaia (the father of Zangkhawliana)5. Laltlungbuta, (the grandfather of Lawmi)6. Hmangsa7. Thatbawnga, (the father of Phira)8. Khupbawnga,( the father of Bawngi)9. Patuala, (the grandfather of Sawia) These families settled in Reivang village, which was under the rule of Chief Lalpua of Tinghmun. While hunting for animals, these families arrived at the site of the present-day Zohmun village. They discovered that the forest was abundantly dense and fertile making it an ideal location that they desired for their settlement. However, the unoccupied land beyond Buallawn territory was deemed the property of Chief Lalhleia. Consequently, they approached Lalhleia to seek permission to settle in the land they desired. Lalhleia, in his benevolence, granted their request, and they returned joyfully.Upon returning home, they reconvened to make a collective decision. They revisited the site with the intention of performing the ritual known as AISAN, which involved lighting a fire at a location where the smoke rose straight upwards, indicating the safety of the area for habitation. Observing this auspicious sign, they exclaimed, "This is indeed good, an absolutely ideal place to live." They then proceeded to clear and clean selected areas, returning home satisfied and pleased with their future settlement."In February 1896, amidst the busiest period of clearing forest for shifting cultivation, four families, including the families of 1. Lawmsawma 2. Lalthangzuala 3.Laltindova 4. Lalbuta, were chosen as the pioneering settlers, marking the beginning of the village's establishment."*NAMING OF THE VILLAGE*The settlers of the new village quickly recognized the abundance of their elevated location, which was graced with nature's comfort. They chose to name the village ZOHMUN and this name remains its official designation to this day.A nearby cool stream was named 'ZOTUI LUI' and it has retained this name ever since. Beyond the Zotui stream was a place called Kawnzar, rich in Hnahthial plants (Phrynium capitatum). They named this area HNAHTHIAL KAWN, a name that continues to be used today.Within a short period, five families added to the village. These families were:1. Hmangsa's family2. Hrangkaia's family3. Thatbawnga's family4. Khupbawnga's family5. Patuala's familyThus, the early inhabitants of Zohmun village numbered nine in total. The first occupied site was situated beyond the former Army Camp, which was discovered to be the most comfortable place for settlement. The remnants of their winter dance ground, constructed from stone and named ZAWLLUNG can still be seen in its collapsed form today. This site marked the initial location of Zohmun village.Edit below overview about Zohmun
