West Delhi, which is an administrative district of the National Capital Territory of Delhi in India, shares boundaries with the districts of North West Delhi to the north, North Delhi and Central Delhi to the east, South West Delhi to the south, and Jhajjar District of the state of Haryana to the west.

The district is divided into three subdivisions, Patel Nagar, Rajouri Garden, and Punjabi Bagh for administrative purposes. Important residential and commercial areas like Janakpuri and Tilak Nagar are located in West Delhi. There are 9 districts in Delhi, which are further subdivided into 27 sub-divisions. Every district has 3 sub-divisions each, headed by Sub Divisional Magistrate.

The present system of administration in Delhi can be traced back to 1803, when Delhi came under British rule becoming a part of the British Punjab. It had a Deputy Commissioner who was the Chief District Officer, having revenue and Registration powers. Being President of the District Board and the Municipality, he was also the head of urban administration.
