Also known as Zalawad, Surendranagar is an administrative district in the state of Gujarat in India having an approximate population of about 1.7 million people. The city was ruled by Zala Rajputs. It is also known as the city of Hi-Tech Bungalows. Surendranagar is a city as well as a Municipality. It is the gateway to Saurashtra. Cotton is the major agricultural product. It produces cotton of one of the finest qualities in the world. First private cotton futures trading exchange was established in Surendranagar. Also known as Wadhwan city, it is a major trade and processing center for agricultural products, soap, glass, cotton, salt, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and plastics, textile bearings, ceramics and sanitary-ware.
Surendranagar History
It told that in many years ago, a ruler of Junagadh district named Rakhengar fell in love with the queen or princess of Wadhwan. He attacked Wadhwan to win her. But the queen/princess escaped from the city towards the river Bhogaavo. It is said that she sacrificed her life by drowning in the Bhogaavo instead of becoming the queen of Junagadh and before she died she cursed the river so that it would never have water and that it would kill one person every year.
Surendranagar Culture
Situated on National Highway Number 8 near Limbadi, Raj-Rajeshwari Temple is a large area of residences, hospitals, and schools. The temple features an exhibition of yoga performed by Rishiji. The three major gods Brahma, Vishnu, and mahesh are worshipped inside. It is the only temple of its kind in Gujarat. The temple is known for its architecture. Developed in 11th century, the Famous Kund known as "Gangavo" is located in Dedadara Village.
Surendranagar Climate
It enjoys an average rainfall with low temperature in winter and high in summers. The climate is arid and healthy. The temperature from March to may constantly rise with extreme heat in May. South-west monsoon starts in June. The temperature gradually decreases thereafter.
