Rudra Prayag History
The district of Rudraprayag is composed by taking the entire Augustmuni and Ukhimath block and a section of Pokhri and Karnrayag block from Chamoli Distrcit, a certain section of Jakholi and Kirtinagar block from Tehri Distrcit and a portion of Khirsu block from Pauri District. During the time Narendra Shah, heir of Kirti Shah, ascended the throne, he was a minor. Thus the Regency, under the leadership of his mother, looked after the administrative affairs of the state in the early years. The British, during the War period of 1939-1942, were provided with an enormous quantity of wood by the state of Tehri. With addition to this, during World War I, the King proposed to render his support and services. Constructing the new township of Narendra Nagar, building the Kirti Nagar and Muni ki Reti were few of his accomplishments.
On May 26th 1946, the king gave up his throne to his son, Manvendra Shah. Due to a car accident, he passed away on 22nd September 1950. Till the state acceded into the Indian Union in August 15th, 1949, Manvendra Singh governed it from 1946. From taking some portions from Chamoli, Pauri and Tehri Districts, Rudraprayag District was constructed. By taking the entire Augustmuni and Ukhimath block and a section of Pokhri and Karnrayag block from Chamoli Distrcit, a certain section of Jakholi and Kirtinagar block from Tehri Distrcit and a portion of Khirsu block from Pauri District and combining them together, the new district of Rudraprayag was thus formed.
