Rohtak History

The Rohtak District is relocated to the Delhi Division in 1884, when Hisar District was eradicated. Rohtak, Gohana, Jhajjar & Sampla are the four tehsils of the district. For economical reasons of the administration, eradication of Sampla Tehsil took place in April, 1910. Among the Rohtak and Jhajjar tehsils, the area of Sample Tehsil was distributed. It had been a part of Delhi District from the time of 1861. Later addition of it was done to Rohtak District, when the disjointing of Delhi Territory and Punjab occurred in the month of September in 1912. Afterwards attachment of the district to Ambala Division took place. Amalgamation of Dujana State to Jhajjar tehsil took place in 1948. Construction of a recent sub-tehsil of Nahar also occurred.

Four tehsils of Rohtak, Sonipat, Jhajjar & Gohana, along with Nahar as sub-tehsil of Jhajjar & Meham as sub-tehsil of Gohana tehsils constituted the district of Rohtak. In 1973, taking some portions from Jhajjar tehsil, the B.Garh tehsil was constructed. The Meham sub-tehsil was given the status of full tehsil in 1973. Splitting of Rohtak District resulted into the formation of Sonipat Tehsil. Sonipat Tehsil was allotted the tehsils of Gohana and Sonipat. Kosli tehsil was carved out of Jhajjar Tehsil. Eradication of Nahar sub-tehsil took place. Thus the five tehsils of Rohtak, B.garh, Jhajjar, Meham and Kosli and one sub-tehsil of M.hail constituted a compact Rohtak district. The district was restructured in 1989. Rohtak was given the addition of Gohana Tehsil. In July, 1992, Badli ,M.hail and Beri sub-tehsils of Rewari were formed. Relocation of Gohana tehsil to Sonipat District took place. Eradication of badly sub-tehsil occurred.

Rohtak District was split into Rohtak and Jhajjar districts in the month of July in 1997. Rohtak and Meham Tehsils constitute the Rohtak District. Jhajjar & B.garh tehsils constitutes the Jhajjar District.
