An administrative district in the state of Gujarat in India, with its headquarters at Navsari city, it has a large Parsi-Zoroastrian community. Dr. Dadabhoy Navroji & Mr. Jamshedji Tata, founder of the Tata group of companies, were born here. The birth place of J.N. Tata is preserved as a memorial by the local branch of Tata Steel Factory in the city outskirts.

The diamond polishing business gave the city a greater pace. Aa clock tower in Navsari serves as an important landmark. The old post office of Navsari was  situated near the Tower. Valsad district was divide in two districts Valsad and Navsari on 2/10/1997 by the Gujarat Government.  Situated on Arabian coast line at southern border of Gujarat state the main headquarter of district Navsari, is included in city taluka. Total number of villages in the district are 389.
   
Navsari History

The city was named as NAG MANDAL in 1142 AD by the Parsis when they first came here. They resembled the city's atmosphere to that of "Sari" prant of Iran. "Now" means new in Persian and "Sari" refers to the place in Iran. Hence, the name NAO SARI came into existence. The Muslim rulers came in Gujarat in the 14th century. Late its name was changed to NAV SAREH by the Muslim rule of the state. It is said that according to the Muslim tradition, there were nine "Sarchs" of Muslims in the city and hence the name was derived as NAV SAREH.

These changes in the names show that like any other city, Navsari has passed through many vicissitudes in the matter of political reign. The kings of the Chalukya Dynasty governed the region of Navsari about fourteen hundred years ago,. Later, the Parsis, who migrated from Iran, ruled this small town. The reign of the Parsis ended with the Muslim rulers taking over. Navsari was the property of the Gaekwads of Baroda for the past 100 years till the independence of India.
