Nagaur District is one of the 33 districts of the state of Rajasthan situated in western India with its district headquarters as city of Nagaur. The district shares its border with Bikaner District in the northwest, Churu District in the north, Sikar District in the northeast, Jaipur District in the east, Ajmer District in the southeast, Pali District in the south and Jodhpur District to the southwest and west. The district lies in the Marwar region of Rajasthan which constitutes Northwestern thorn scrub forests belt surrounding the Thar Desert. The geographical features of the district comprise Aravalli Range which extends across the southeastern portion of the district, the saline Sambhar Lake, India's largest salt lake and Rajasthan's largest lake positioned at the southwestern corner of the district straddling the boundary with Jaipur District.
Nagaur History
The kingdom of Ahichhatrapur which Arjuna is said to have conquered and then offered to his Guru Dronacharya, was perhaps some of the region of the Nagaur district as mentioned in Mahabharata. It was the capital of Jangaldesh. The history of city dates back to 4th century BC when it was founded. Nagas were the first to rule this place. About 7th century onwards, the Chauhans became the overlords of Nagaur and it subsequently became a part of Sapadalaksha. Muslims used to invade the city of Nagaur from Central Asia persisting it as their centre . The Nagaur fort is of historical importance.
Nagaur city earns the honour of being selected as the place in the country from where the Democratic Decentralization process was initiated by the late Shri Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India on the 2 October 1959 after independence. Nagaur is famous for its cattle fair being the organizer of huge bullock camel fair "Ramdev Pasumela" every year in the month of February. Nagaur district has got plenty of natural resources like LimeStone, Salt and other type of Stones.
Nagaur Climate
The climate of Nagaur is very dry with hot summers. Sand storms are obvious in summer. The climate of the district is noticeable by extreme dryness, large variations of temperature & highly variable rainfall. The heat and temperature keeps on rising intensely from March till June which are the hottest months of the year. The maximum and the minimum recorded temperature in district are 470 C and 00 C respectively. The average temperature of the district is 23.50 C. The winter season starts from mid November and ends till the beginning of March. The short duration of rainy season extends from July to mid September. The ten raingage stations of the district comprises Nagaur, Khinvsar, Didwana, Merta, Parbatsar, Makarana, Nawa, Jayal, Degana & Ladnun. The average rainfall in the district is 36.16 cm with 51.5 % humidity.
