Mysore District is administration district situated in the southern state of Karnataka. The district is surrounded on the Northeast by Mandya, on the Southeast by Chamrajanagar, on the south by Kerala state, on the West by Kodagu district, and lastly on the North by Hassan district. It is a very famous tourist destinations to visit like Mysore Palace to Nagarhole National Park. Mysore has a famous place in the history of Karnataka. Mysore was for very long ruled by the Wodeyars from year 1399 until the independence of India in the year 1947. Mysore's prominence can be gauged from the fact that the Karnataka state was known previously as Mysore state. Mysore is the third most populous district in Karnataka.
Mysore district derives its name from the city of Mysore, and this being the headquarters of the district. The statue of Mahishasura, after whom the city is named, and a temple devoted to Goddess Chamundeshwari on the apex of Chamundi Hill near Mysore city, relate to the myth of its origin.Mysore is well known for the world famous festivities called Dasara when the city receives a large number of tourists. Mysore also lends its name to the Mysore mallige, the Mysore style of painting, the sweet dish Mysore Pak, the Mysore Peta and the garment called the Mysore silk saree. Mysore is second cleanest city in India in the year 2010 as per the survey.

The climate is pleasant and it enjoys cool and equable temperatures but it also shares the wider climatic pattern of Karnataka as a whole, although there are some distinctive features.
